SBC Communications is a DSL Internet access provider in the USA. It offers Internet and data services through its affiliates. The operator is one of the largest US DSL providers.
In November 2005, SBC merged with AT&T for $16 billion and was renamed as AT&T. This move enabled SBC to leverage AT&T's voice over IP platforms and other technological innovations to enhance its IP-based network capabilities and offer value added services to its customers.
In 4Q05, AT&T increased the monthly rental rates of its 'SBC Business unlimited' service by 2%.
On 16 Nov 2004, SBC launched VoIP service in four states for its residential customers. It planned a full-scale rollout by first half of 2005. It also launched a Hosted Enterprise VoIP service, targeted at small and medium-sized businesses in November 2003. The service was initially launched in select markets and was available in all the cities in December 2004.
