FASTWEB IPTV

FASTWEB is a broadband telecommunications operator, which offers telephony, video and Internet services through ADSL and fibre optic technologies in Italy. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of e.Biscom. In April 2004, e.Biscom decided to merge its operations with its subsidiary FASTWEB. The combined entity adopted the ‘FASTWEB’ name on 1 December 2004. FASTWEB has stopped reporting the number of its TV subscribers separately from total broadband subscribers.

In May 2007, Swisscom acquired an 82 per cent stake in FASTWEB. It is anticipated that the new owner’s strategy will focus on further network expansion, with a view to covering all main Italian cities. According to FASTWEB, not all of its broadband lines are TV-enabled, which could restrict the potential subscriber base in the near term. During 2007, FASTWEB also made TV available as a standalone service for the first time.

In May 2010, FASTWEB, Vodafone and Wind announced a project aiming to provide Italy with a single FTTH network infrastructure.

In Q1 2011, FASTWEB launched Sky Home Pack, a satellite TV, broadband and telephony bundle, in collaboration with Sky. In December 2011, a version of the bundle without telephony, Sky Home Pack Web, was launched.
