Comstar-United TeleSystems (Comstar-UTS) is the leading provider of integrated telecommunication solutions in Russia and the CIS. Until recently, Comstar-Direct, a subsidiary of Comstar-UTS, was the leader of the broadband market in Moscow. In addition to ADSL broadband, Comstar-Direct offered IPTV service under the brand name Stream TV.

In October 2009, the leading Russian mobile operator MTS (Mobile TeleSystems) acquired a 51 per cent stake in Comstar-UTS from Sistema, which before the acquisition held 52.8 per cent in MTS and 51 per cent stake in Comstar-UTS. In December 2009, MTS increased its shareholding in Comstar-UTS to 61.97 per cent.

In May 2010, Comstar-UTS and MTS started rebranding Comstar-UTS’ products and services under the MTS brand. In December 2010, Comstar and MTS merged. Since Q111, all broadband services are marketed via the MTS website. From 1 April 2011, Comstar-UTS terminated its activities as a legal entity.

In July 2011, MTS launched a mobile TV service offering 100 TV channels. It can be accessed via 3G or Wi-Fi networks within Russia.
