PCCW

Pacific Century Cyber Works (PCCW) is the parent company of Hong Kong Telecom (HKT). PCCW’s broadband network serves all major business areas and 95 percent of Hong Kong households. In August 2000, PCCW completed a merger with Cable & Wireless HKT.

In September 2003, PCCW launched ‘now Broadband TV’, a pay TV service over its ADSL network. The operator also offers the Video on Demand (VoD) service via now.com.hk to PCCW’s broadband (NETVIGATOR) subscribers.

On 19 July 2007 PCCW announced the launch of High Definition (HD) programming on now TV. In November of the same year, PCCW launched a fibre based bundle with 1000 Mbps including HSDPA, 3G services, Wi-Fi services and HD TV.

As of Q4 2008, the company had a 60 per cent share of the broadband market. PCCW has one of the highest rates of IPTV penetration of any operator in the world, with over two thirds of its broadband lines having an IPTV contract.
