TalkTalk TV (formerlyTiscali)

Tiscali TV is the replacement name for what used to be called HomeChoice, the TV service brand of Video Networks. It was a pioneer of IPTV services in the UK. In August 2006, HomeChoice/Video Networks was acquired by Tiscali UK. The acquisition was in line with the company’s stated aim of integrating the video operations of both companies.

On 8 May 2009, Tiscali announced the acquisition of its UK operations by the TalkTalk Group, part of the Carphone Warehouse, for GBP 236 million. TalkTalk’s Chief Executive Charles Dunstone has said that it will take time for Tiscali TV to show that it can be profitable. This follows rumours that TalkTalk would cancel the loss-making service, which has struggled to attract large numbers of subscribers to its service.

In March 2010, Tiscali TV has been rebranded as TalkTalk TV. The service is not currently offered to new subscribers, so the tariffs in this profile are from the period when the service was advertised.

In its February 2012 press release, the company indicated that it plans ‘the launch of its TV proposition’ during 2012. It is very likely that the new offering will be part of the YouView project which is a partnership between BT, the BBC, ITV, Five, Channel 4, Arqiva and TalkTalk. It will give enable viewers to catch up with programmes from the BBC iPlayer, ITV.com and 4OD on their TV set, rather than on a laptop, desktop, or smartphone.
