Internet Video & Voice Movistar (Telefonica de Espana)Telefonica de Espana is the incumbent telecom operator in Spain. It conducted TV over ADSL (Imagenio) trials, with around 700 residents in April 2003, after which it launched this service in Barcelona, Madrid and Alicante in the beginning of 2004. By the end of June 2008 Telefonica had over 576,000 pay TV clients. In Q3 2007, Telefonica announced its 4-year EUR 9 billion investment plan (2006-09) to develop its fixed access network, expand 3G mobile networks and develop new services, systems and platforms. The operator’s network is capable of offering broadband speeds of up to 10 Mbps to half of the country’s households, and it has started test piloting speeds of 30 Mbps in Madrid and Barcelona. The operator expects to be able to offer 100 Mbps speeds to 25 per cent of users by 2010. According to the telecoms regulator CMT, Telefonica will control 70 per cent of the country’s IPTV market by 2023, leaving 30 per cent to competitors Orange and Jazztelia. In November 2009, Telefonica launched Trio Futura – VDSL based triple play bundles with up to 30 Mbps download speeds. Over the next couple of years the speeds were increased to 50Mbps and 100Mbps. From May 2010, all Telefonica’s fixed and mobile services in Spain are marketed under the Movistar brand.
