Internet Video & Voice BT Broadband TalkBT is a UK based telecommunications operator digital video, telephone and high–speed internet services. It provides VoIP services under the BT Broadband Talk brand. Services are available either via a softphone or using a conventional handset connected to the BT Homehub wireless router. BT also offers a videophone service via Broadband Talk, using dedicated videophones. However, as all BT Broadband Talk customers will also have a BT phone line (needed for BT Broadband service), an additional application of BT Broadband Talk is in providing a second line. On 7 August 2007, BT launched a new service for its VoIP business subscribers enabling them to retain their local geographic numbers from BT instead of unknown prefixes for VoIP services. On 29 July 2008, BT acquired Ribbit Corporation, a voice application development platform. This acquisition will help BT be able to add voice and automation features to any web based community or application. On 29 January 2011, BT ceased to take new orders for its Broadband Talk VoIP services. Its most recent router, the Home Hub 3, does not support VoIP like the Home Hub 2. However, the operator will continue to provide the service to the existing users.
