Operator Source 8 May 2012ALBtelecomOn 19 June 2007, after a two-year period of negotiations over the privatisation of ALBtelecom, the Albanian government agreed on the sale of a 76 per cent stake in ALBtelecom to CETEL, a consortium of Çalik Holding (80 per cent) and Turk Telekom (20 per cent). The deal also included Eagle Mobile, the third largest Albanian mobile operator. In September 2011, it was announced that the Albanian government will sell its 16 per cent stake in ALBtelecom in a tender due on 28 October 2011. Since privatisation ALBtelecom is trying to improve the quality and reach of services and infrastructure while reducing pricing to increase its subscriber base. In 2008, ALBtelecom's parent company signed a EUR 100 million credit agreement with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Black Sea Bank for Trade and Development (BTDB). The investment was used to upgrade and expand the existing fixed-line network infrastructure, to build a new mobile GSM network and develop new broadband and data services.
