Algerie Telecom
12 May 2009
Algerie Telecom (AT) is a public telecommunications company based in Algeria. Established on 5 August 2003, the company offers services such as voice, data, satellite and Internet access to residential and business users. AT held a monopoly on local telephony services until the launch of the second national fixed line licensee, Lacom, in February 2006. It is also the sole shareholder in the country’s number two mobile operator, Mobilis.
From 1 April 2008, the operator provides ADSL services through Djaweb, an entity launched after the merger of Easy, Fawri and Anis Internet service providers.
In 2007, the Algerian government announced plans to partly privatise Algerie Telecom. Some 45 foreign companies expressed an interest in acquiring the stake, but however privatisation has been delayed.
