Golden Telecom Inc. was a leading facilities-based provider of telecommunications and Internet services in the major cities of Russia including Moscow, Kiev, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Kaliningrad, Krasnoyarsk, Almaty and Tashkent.

In May 2007, Golden Telecom acquired a 51 per cent stake in the leading Russian operator Corbina Telecom which pioneered the construction of large scale metropolitan FTTB networks in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Ekaterinburg, Rostov, Saratov, Volgograd and other major cities.

In Q108, Golden Telecom was acquired by the Russian mobile operator VimpelCom operating under the brand name Beeline. VimpelCom Group includes companies operating in Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Georgia and Armenia, in territories with a total population of about 250 million. By end 2008 it operated FTTB networks in 47 cities and 3G networks in 40 cities. As of June 2008 Corbina Telecom is also a 100 per cent subsidiary of VimpelCom.

In October 2010 VimpelCom and Weather Investments signed an agreement to combine the two groups.
