Beltelecom is the national telecoms operator owned by the Belarus government. It was founded on 3 July 1995 and launched its data communications network in 1996. Beltelecom is also the primary Internet service provider in Belarus.

In addition to the control of international channels as a primary provider, Beltelecom plays a significant role in the Internet services market. By the end of 2008 it controlled 78 per cent of the national ADSL market and 44 per cent in Minsk.

In 2010, Beltelecom launched VoD and its first double play package. In mid-2011, the company launched its first fibre based (xPON) services.
