Beltelecom
1 September 2008
Beltelecom is the national telecoms operator owned by the Belarus government. It was founded on 3 July 1995 and launched its data communications network in 1996. Beltelecom is also the primary Internet service provider in Belarus.
In addition to the control of international channels as a primary provider, Beltelecom plays a significant role in the Internet access services market and commands a market share totalling over 60 per cent. Although it offers a range of technologies (dial-up Internet access, leased lines, ADSL, SDSL and Ethernet broadband), Beltelecom's Internet services are currently dominated by dial-up access, representing about 80 per cent of all subscribers.
In October 2007, Beltelecom announced plans to roll out multi-service data networks using NGN technology with the first networks to be deployed in Vitebsk.
