17 May 2010CableTEL

CableTEL is the leading cable operator in Bulgaria with the largest national coverage. The company was founded in 2003 by a group of 20 US-based and Bulgarian investors. In October 2008, Warburg Pincus, through its Dutch-based company FN Cable Cooperatief, received approval from Bulgaria's anti-trust regulator to acquire CableTEL, however due to the financial crisis it failed to finance the acquisition.

In October 2009, CableTEL together with another Bulgarian cable operator Eurocom was acquired by a private equity fund EQTV. The two companies will merge in the near future. CableTEL offers services in 22 Bulgarian cities using its 2000 km fibre-optic backbone and HFC last mile network.
