It was established in 1973 and offers cable Internet services mainly in eastern USA. On 7 May 2008, Cablevision acquired the Sundance Channel via its subsidiary Rainbow Media. The acquisition strengthened Cablevision's presence and the brand value of Rainbow Media. On 29 July 2008, Cablevision completed the acquisition of a 97 per cent stake in Newsday Media Group adding print and online media capabilities to its business. On 14 June 2010, Cablevision announced plans to acquire Bresnan Communications for USD 1.36 million. In December 2010, the acquisition was completed wherein Cablevision took over all the assets and customer base of Bresnan, adding homes passed in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah to its New York area.
