26 Jan 2012Cantv

Cantv is a leading telecommunications operator in Venezuela. It had the monopoly on telecommunication services in the country for nine years before market deregulation took place on 27 November 2000. In March 2007, the major stakeholders were Verizon (28.5 per cent), the Venezuelan government (6.6 per cent) and Cantv employees (6.2 per cent). The remaining 58.7 per cent was owned by the public and other stockholders.

The company was re-nationalised in May 2007, and the government now owns about 90 per cent of shares, with the remainder distributed amongst employees and retirement funds.
