CityFibre Holdings Ltd

CityFibre Holdings Ltd is a fibre-optic infrastructure provider building private and public sector networks comprising point-to-point connections, metro rings that connect multiple sites in a town or city in a fibre ‘ring’ and FTTH networks.

CityFibre is to invest £500m of private funding in the delivery of town and city-wide FTTP networks to one million homes and 50,000 businesses in 15 secondary cities across the UK, including Bournemouth and York.

The company was formed as an investment vehicle in January 2011 to acquire companies owned by i3 Group. On 20 April 2011, CityFibre Holdings announced that it had completed the restructuring of these companies, including H2O Networks, Fibrecity Holdings and Opencity Media, and that the transference of all assets to CityFibre was complete and approved by those banks which had provided funding to the original projects. This followed an announcement in January 2011 that the i3 Group had sold its shares in Fibrecity Holdings Ltd to CityFibre Holdings.

CityFibre has also announced plans for the Bournemouth FTTH network it acquired and has reiterated it is providing an "open access" infrastructure.

Fibrecity Holdings Ltd was a wholesale-only network provider which planned to pass one million homes and businesses with fibre over four years (to August 2014). It said it was offering live network services in Bournemouth and building an FTTH network in Dundee.

While CityFibre is a new company unconnected with Fibrecity Holdings, this profile retains historical information on activities related to those assets it has acquired. Historical information on Fibrecity Holdings is also available to UK Plus subscribers here.
