Operator Source 30 Jan 2012CYTACyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) is a state owned operator, which offers voice and data communications over fixed and mobile connection services in Cyprus. It has the exclusive right to provide telecommunications services in the country. The operator launched its residential and business broadband services in April 2001. As of April 2007, CYTA dominated the Cypriot telecoms market, controlling 99 per cent of the broadband market, 90 per cent of the mobile phone market and 91 per cent of the fixed telephony market. In Q308 Cytamobile-Vodafone upgraded its 3G network to Mobile Broadband (High Speed Downlink Packet Access - HSDPA). In H211, in order to address the growing demand for connectivity between the Middle East, Europe and the Far East, CYTA signed agreements to deploy submarine cable systems connecting Cyprus to Lebanon (via EUROPA cable system) and Syria (via ALASIA cable system).
