Helsinki Telephone Corporation was renamed Elisa Communications Corporation in January 2000. It is a Finnish telecommunications service provider with an international presence focusing on the Baltics.

Elisa offers services through the Elisa, Saunalahti and Kolumbus brands, and in association with its partners Vodafone and Telenor. It offers its private, corporate and institutional customers voice and telecommunication services, customised communications solutions and network operator services. On 24 May 2007, a merger agreement was signed between Elisa and Lounet Oy. The merger took effect in September 2007.

In June 2009, the government of Finland transferred its Elisa shares to its fully-owned company Solidium Oy. Following this transfer, the government has no direct ownership of Elisa.
