Operator Source 28 Mar 2012France TelecomFrance Telecom (FT) is the incumbent operator in France and among the first carriers in the world to invest in ADSL. It launched ADSL services in December 1999 followed by the launch of its TV-over-DSL service in selected areas of France in December 2003. Currently, the operator offers ADSL broadband standalone services and bundles with speeds up to 18 Mbps. It also recently launched an FTTx-based triple play bundle with speeds of up to 100 Mbps. In September 2007, France Telecom agreed to the sale of its Dutch mobile and Internet operations to Deutsche Telekom AG. On 21 December 2007, a consortium formed between France Telecom (78.5 per cent) and Alcazar Capital Limited (21.5 per cent) which acquired a 51 per cent stake in Telkom Kenya. In Q209, France Telecom increased its stake in Sonatel from 42.3 per cent to 52.2 per cent. In November 2009 France Telecom and TDC agreed to merge their respective Swiss subsidiaries, Orange Communication and Sunrise Communications. However, the move was reversed in June 2010 after a decision by the Swiss Competition Commission to ban the merger. In December 2011, France Telecom has reached an agreement with Apax Partners to sell 100 per cent of Orange Communication.
