Operator Source 29 Mar 2012FreeFree is the second-largest ISP in France. It was established in 1999 and is a 100 per cent subsidiary of the Iliad Group. Free offers Internet access, telephony and television as a bundled package to its subscribers. The company launched its ‘Free High Flow’ ADSL service in September 2002, followed by a 15 Mbps service based on ADSL2+ technology in October 2004, a 20 Mbps service in May 2005 and a 28 Mbps service in Q107. In Q307, it launched an FTTH-based triple play bundle initially available in two districts of Paris. In Q306, Iliad acquired FTTx operator CiteFibre, which consolidated Iliad’s front-ranking position in the development of fibre-optic services in France. In August 2008, Iliad bought the LibertySurf Group operating in France under the Alice brand. In December 2009, Iliad was awarded the country's 4th 3G licence, with the 4G licence granted in October 2011. In January 2012, Iliad launched its mobile service offering which has seen a record take up in the first couple of months, though the operator has not revealed its mobile customer numbers yet.
