The company initially offered its ILEC services under the brand name ‘Frontier’. On 31 July 2008, Citizens Communications changed its name to Frontier Communications Corporation, aligning the corporate name with the brand name of its products and services. On 13 May 2009, Frontier Communications signed an agreement with Verizon Communications to acquire access lines worth USD 8.6 billion from the latter. The transfer of access lines to Frontier will make it the biggest pure rural communications services provider in the country, enhancing its scale of operations as well as cash flow generation capabilities.
