The company was formed in 2000 and is headquartered in Beijing, China. Great Wall Broadband Network Service Co., Ltd. operates as a subsidiary of China International Trust and Investment Co.

The operator offers high-speed broadband, multimedia interactive entertainment, Internet and telephony services to over 30 major cities in China via its fibre-optic and Ethernet based network. By the end of 2005, GWBN obtained support from the “Pentium One” backbone network which covers more than 80 per cent of Chinese cities.
