Operator Source 8 Feb 2012Irish BroadbandIrish Broadband was originally a leading wireless broadband provider to residential and business users in Ireland, offering broadband services based on WiMAX technology. NTR Broadband is the trading name in Northern Ireland for Irish Broadband. In May 2008, Irish Telecoms group Imagine Communications acquired Irish Broadband for EUR 47 million. The vendors, NTR and Kilsaran Concrete retained a 25 per cent stake in the enlarged group, as well as making a further investment of EUR 7 million in the company. In August 2002, Irish Broadband started its first deployment of wireless services in Ireland. The operator now has over 13 licences in the 3.5 GHz band to operate in most cities, and holds exclusive rights in the 3.5 GHz spectrum in Ireland. On 9 January 2007, Irish broadband launched its first wired broadband services based on ADSL technology. By mid 2008, the company has become the second largest residential broadband provider after Eircom.
