Operator Source 2 Apr 2012Jupiter TelecommunicationsJupiter Telecommunications (J-COM Broadband) is a Japanese company providing cable TV, high-speed Internet and telephony services in the Hokkaido, Kanto, Kansai and Kyushu regions of Japan. Following the purchase of Titus Communications (a subsidiary of Microsoft) Jupiter is the largest cable operator in Japan. On 5 January 2007, the operator announced its aim to launch a super high-speed Internet service via J:COM NET with downstream speeds of up to 160 Mbps. The service was launched in April 2007 throughout the Kansai Minami Osaka area (including Osaka Sayama city, Osaka prefecture), and Izumi Ohtsu areas (including Izumi city, Osaka prefecture). This service was extended to Tokyo in October 2007. In May 2007 Jupiter Telecommunications announced its merger with the Sumitomo corporation taking a 50 per cent stake in the company. Two years later, Sumitomo increased its stake in J:COM from 27 to 40 per cent. In March 2011, KDDI acquired a 31 per cent stake in Jupiter Telecommunications from Liberty Global.
