Operator Source 2 Apr 2012KDDI (AU One Net)KDDI is an alternative carrier formed in October 2000 by the merger of Japan's state-owned international telecommunication carrier KDD and alternative carriers DDI and IDO. The telco provides mobile services via its 'AU' brand and Internet services to residential customers under the 'Au One Net' (previously 'Dion') brand. For ADSL broadband there is a "regular" line provided by eAccess as well as those by Tokai, HOTnet, STNet, Energia, and Flets. These require conventional phone lines laid by NTT. Alternatively, the 'ADSL One' (formally 'Metal Plus') service uses KDDI's lines. KDDI rolled out DSL services in Tokyo and Osaka, followed by other cities in 2001. In March 2011, KDDI acquired a 31 per cent stake in J:Com from Liberty Global.
