KDDI

1 October 2008
KDDI is an alternative carrier formed in October 2000 by the merger of Japan's state-owned international telecommunication carrier KDD and alternative carriers DDI and IDO.

The telco provides mobile services via its 'AU' brand and Internet services to residential customers under the 'Au One Net' (previously 'Dion') brand. For ADSL there is a "regular" line provided by eAccess as well as those by ACCA, Tokai, TOHK, HOTnet, STNet, Energia, and Flets. These require conventional phone lines laid by NTT, on the other hand, the 'ADSL One' (formally 'Metal Plus') service uses KDDI's lines. KDDI rolled out DSL services in Tokyo and Osaka, followed by other cities in 2001.

In September 2007, KDDI announced that it will establish a local subsidiary in India. KDDI India Private Limited ("KDDI India") will be established through 100 per cent investment by KDDI Singapore, a subsidiary of KDDI.
