Operator Source 4 Apr 2012Korea TelecomKorea Telecom (KT), first established on 10 December 1981, is one of the largest providers of ADSL services in the world. KT is also the major nationwide local call service carrier in Korea. It provides nationwide local and long distance call services, overseas call services, multimedia services and satellite communications services. On 30 December 2010, KT launched its communications and broadcast satellite “Olleh 1”. This move will enable KT to provide high quality HD and 3D satellite broadcast services, with a 25 per cent increase in satellite broadcasting output across the Korean Peninsula, for the next 15 years from early February 2011. On 15 October 2011, KT announced plans to acquire a 20 per cent stake in Telkom SA for a consideration of USD 600 million. The reason for this strategic move is however not disclosed by the operator.
