Operator Source 15 Feb 2012KPN TelecomKPN Telecom is the incumbent operator in the Netherlands. It was formerly called PTT Telecom and was renamed in 1997. In an attempt to make the Dutch telecommunications market more competitive, the telecom regulator (OPTA) allowed Tiscali usage of KPN’s infrastructure in May 2003. In March 2003, OPTA told KPN to offer ADSL services to third-party ISPs at the same speeds as it is offering to business customers. On 20 August 2007, KPN's wholly owned subsidiary, KPN Mobile International BASE, entered into an agreement with Versatel Telecom International and Versatel Nederland over the acquisition of Tele2 Belgium and Versatel Belgium for EUR 95 million on a debt and cash-free basis. Tele2's substantial residential subscriber base and its deeply rooted position in the B2B market will allow BASE to grow its presence in Belgium.
