Mälarenergi delivers electricity, heating, water, cooling and broadband services to customers including distribution networks for utility services throughout Sweden.

Mälarenergi owns Mälarenergi Stadsnät AB, an organisation formed in 2000 as a council-owned power company with the aim of directing the deployment of FTTH and FTTB services in the city of Västerås. Maelarenergi Stadsnaet is developing a network through which Internet and telephony providers offer a range of different services.

By the beginning of 2008, the FTTx network at Västerås covered the entire city (business premises and households) as well as public facilities such as schools, councils and hospitals. About 96 per cent of all households and business units in the municipality can connect to the network. WiMAX is being deployed for connecting the remaining 4 per cent. Currently, 30 service providers (10 of which are ISPs) offer over 100 services such as broadband, VoIP, TV and security.
