Magyar Telekom is the incumbent telecommunications operator in Hungary established as the legal successor to the former state owned enterprise, Hungarian Post, on 31 December 1991. The company was 100 per cent state owned until end 1993.

Currently Deutsche Telekom owns 59.52 per cent of shares in Magyar Telekom, 40.48 per cent is publically owned, while the Golden Share is held by the Hungarian state. From Q408, the operator started offering broadband services under the T-Home brand.

In 2009, the operator launched fibre based broadband services with speeds up to 50 Mbps, followed by an upgrade to 80 Mbps in Q309.
