Manx Telecom
3 October 2008
Manx Telecom serves the Isle of Man which is an island of 570 sq km with a population of 76,000, in the middle of the Irish Sea, between Great Britain and Ireland. Strictly speaking the Isle of Man is not part of the United Kingdom, but a separate dependency of the British crown.
The operator announced some limited price cuts in February 2008, including an increased data allowance for entry-level users, cheaper modems, and an introductory reduced rental.
In the past telecoms services in the Isle of Man were provided by a branch of British Telecom. Manx Telecom was formed in 1987 and is now a wholly owned subsidiary of O2, the mobile phone operator split off from BT in 2001. O2 in turn is now part of the international Telefonica group.
Manx Telecom launched its ‘Wires-Only ADSL’ services for its broadband customers in September 2003. The operator offers its broadband services via five ISPs - Domicilium, Mannet, Manxnet, Wi-Manx and 2e2. The services covered in this profile are those offered by Manxnet.
