The operator announced an IPO in December 2003, and is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. It also started reselling its products under the brand name Chess Communications from September 2004.

In May 2006, TeliaSonera bought an 82.3 per cent stake in NextGenTel. Three years later, in July 2009, NextGenTel acquired Tele 2 Norway. NextGenTel is now a wholly owned subsidiary of TeliaSonera.
