The company offers various telecommunications services such as Digital Data Network, GSM and Internet services. In July 2008, the Oman government announced plans to sell a 25 per cent stake in OmanTel which was called off in January 2009 due to unstable economic conditions. On 15 March 2010, the company announced the launch of its Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) service based on Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology which will allow broadband Internet speeds of up to 80 Mbps. In Q111, Omantel offered its residential customers the first FTTH broadband plan with a download speed up to 40 Mbps. In Q310, OmanTel was granted a 4G LTE licence. In Q112, Omantel announced its plans to roll out 4G LTE network to provide more advanced mobile data services to its subscribers. The company invested OMR 84 million in developing its network in 2011 and expects to make a similar investment in 2012. OmanTel's total fixed and mobile customer base stood at 3.53 million subscribers at the end of Q411.
