The Philippines Long Distance Company (PLDT) is the incumbent telecommunications operator in the Philippines founded in November 1928. The company’s charter, which extends until 2028, authorises it to provide almost every type of telecommunications service.

PLDT launched DSL-based high-speed Internet access in Manila and Cebu in April and June 2001 respectively. The residential DSL service, myDSL, was offered at a reasonably lower price compared to other DSL providers in the Philippines, during the initial roll-out. On 25 May 2009, PLDT announced plans to launch its new high-speed Internet service using an FTTH platform by the end of the year.

In Q110, PLDT continued the expansion of its digital fibre-optic network. The network expansion will enable PLDT to handle its increased demand for Internet bandwidth as more potential customers are signing up for broadband services.
