PLDT
10 September 2008
The Philippines Long Distance Company (PLDT) is the incumbent telecommunications operator in Philippines founded in November 1928. The company’s charter, which extends until 2028, authorises it to provide almost every type of telecommunications service.
PLDT launched DSL-based high speed Internet access in Manila and Cebu in April and June 2001 respectively. The residential DSL service, myDSL, was offered at a reasonably lower price as compared to other DSL providers in Philippines, during the initial roll-out.
In March 2007, UTStarcom Inc. announced the deployment of 150,000 lines of its IP-based platform as the foundation for a new, next-generation network with PLDT.
