Qualitynet, a 44 per cent Batelco-controlled company, was established in 1998 in response to a public offering by the Ministry of Communication, as part of their strategy to privatise Internet and data communication services within the State of Kuwait. Qualitynet continues to be the main service provider to the government and business community in Kuwait City. In Q411, the operator held a 45 per cent share of Kuwait’s internet and data communications market.

In Q411, it was announced Kuwait could establish a regulatory authority for the telecommunications sector by Q212. This would spur the competition in the market and reduce the cost of telecommunications services. As a result, the move would pose a strong competition to the incumbent.

In Q410, Qualitynet launched new residential broadband plans with up to 8 Mbps speeds based on the ADSL technology. In Q111, the company introduced boost services with speeds of up to 48 Mbps available at night using ADSL and FTTx technologies. In Q411, the operator launched new residential broadband services with speeds of up to 8 Mbps based on the FTTH technology.
