Operator Source 7 Mar 2012Rogers CommunicationsRogers Communications (RCI) is a Canadian operator which offers services via Rogers Cable (cable television, high-speed Internet access and video retailing) and Rogers Media (radio and television broadcasting, teleshopping and publishing) in Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Following the acquisition of Sprint Canada in July 2005, Rogers renamed its Cable division Rogers Cable and Telecom, assimilating Sprint Canada completely into RCI. On 28 August 2008, Rogers Media Television took over the operations of OLN speciality channel post the acquisition of the latter on 1 August 2008. The purchase of the channel enhanced the programme line-up for Rogers’ digital TV customers. On 5 October 2010, Rogers Communications acquired Atria Networks. The deal significantly enhanced the fibre-optic network of the operator and hence the footprint of the company in this segment. In December 2011, Rogers in partnership with Bell Canada acquired a 75 per cent stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE). The acquisition will enable the operator to deliver content on any platform across its broadband and wireless networks, while strengthening the value of its sports brand, Sportsnet.
