3 Apr 2012Saudi Telecom

Saudi Telecommunications Company (STC) is the only complete provider of telecommunications services throughout Saudi Arabia. The company also operates in Kuwait, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey and South Africa. STC was established in 1998 by the Saudi Government, but since then the government has broken STC's monopoly by deregulating the telecoms sector in 2004.

In September 2007, Al Jawal (the mobile arm of Saudi Telecom) launched a new 7.2 MB datacard that offers customers high-speed Internet surfing using the Kingdom's extensive 3.5G network. As of September 2010, Saudi Telecom held about 70 per cent share of the country's broadband market.

By the end of 2012 Saudi Telecom plans to be offering 4G coverage across 65 per cent of the Kingdom.
