SYD Energi A/S was formed in April 2006, after ESS Energi merged with Sydvest Energi. Both companies started the deployment of FTTH prior to the merger.

SYD Energi is the third biggest electricity company in Denmark. It provides heating and other services in the south and south-west of Denmark, mainly around the city of Aabenraa. About 2,500 households are connected to the Internet through SYD Energi's subsidiary Fibernet.

SYD Energi markets its FTTH service as a standalone or bundled offering including IPTV, VoIP, fixed line telephony and/or broadband.

In 2011, Syd Energi changed its name to SE, as it plans to cover a wider area and to expand its business in the telecommunications market.
