Operator Source 2 Apr 2012SingTelSingapore Telecom (SingTel) is an integrated communications service provider in the Asia Pacific region with two main hubs, Singapore and Australia. It is the incumbent operator in Singapore and owns over 99 per cent of the total telephone lines in the country. In Q311, SingTel held 84.2, 45.5 and 45.2 per cent shares in fixed line, mobile and fixed broadband markets respectively. SingTel offers its broadband services under the brand name SingNet Broadband. SingNet revised its DSL product range in 2002, concentrating on basic Internet access rather than value-added services such as VoD. In Q109, Singtel launched its 21 Mbps 3G service. In Q110, SingTel launched its ultra high-speed broadband service based on GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) technology capable of delivering speeds up to 200 Mbps. In Q411, SingTel announced the commercial launch of its Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband service with theoretical speeds of up to 75 Mbps available both to residential and business customers.
