Operator Source 3 Apr 2012SoneraSonera is a telecommunications operator based in Finland. In November 2002, Sonera merged with Telia, the Swedish incumbent telecommunications operator. Following the merger the company changed its name to Telia Sonera Finland. The operator launched high-speed Internet services to business customers in June 1999. It launched the first DSL service for residential customers, Home ADSL, in May 2000. The company offered ADSL services through Auria until January 2007, when Auria changed its name and became fully integrated into Sonera. All Auria subscribers were taken over by Sonera, which continues to offer similar services according to their existing contracts. In May 2006, Telia Sonera bought an 82.3 per cent stake in NextGenTel, a leading broadband service provider in Norway. The deal will allow the company to penetrate the broadband market and provide its data, VoIP and IPTV services in the Norwegian market.
