Svenska Bostader

Founded in 1944, Svenska Bostäder (SB) is the largest housing association in Sweden. It is owned by the City of Stockholm. SB initiated a project that is aiming to eventually deploy FTTx on all housing estates for which SB is responsible. If successful, the fibre-optic network would pass 43,000 homes with some 90,000 residents and 5,000 businesses in Stockholm by 2010. As of March 2007 about 13,000 flats had access to SB Bredband.

In July 2006, all areas covered by the network were served by between 4 and 8 different ISPs offering broadband and VoIP services, as well as 2 telephony and cable TV service providers. Tenants can freely chose the services and service providers they want. If access to SB’s network is not yet available, tenants may subscribe directly to ISPs which have a network presence in that area.
