29 Mar 2012Telecable de Asturias

Telecable is a telecommunications provider which offers voice and data services in Spain. It was established in 1995 at Oviedo. It launched its cable TV services in 1995 in the Asturias region of Spain, followed by broadband services for residential customers in April 1999.

In Q307, Telecable and other Spanish cable operators experienced a fall in the growth of their broadband subscriber numbers due to competition from rivals such as Jazztel, Telefonica, Tele2 and Ya.com. In September 2009, the operator announced plans to expand its services into the western Spanish region of Extremadura.

In October 2011, the Carlyle Group has agreed to buy an 85 per cent stake in Telecable de Asturias. The deal was completed in December 2011.
