Telecom Egypt (TE) is the incumbent and largest telecommunication company, with active operations in Jordan and Algeria as well as Egypt. The company offers Internet services through its 95.04 per cent owned subsidiary TE Data, and mobile services through its 44.79 per cent owned subsidiary Vodafone Egypt (VE), one of the three mobile operators in the country.

The company is particularly interested in acquiring fixed line and mobile operators in the Middle East and North Africa. In Q309 Telecom Egypt submitted a bid to acquire Link Egypt, a unit belonging to Orascom Telecom. In Q210, the company attempted to acquire additional shares in Vodafone Egypt. However, both bids were unsuccessful. In Q410, it was announced that TE is considering launching a Virtual Mobile Network in the near future. In Q409, TE launched FTTH services in one of the suburbs of Cairo.
