Telefonica Colombia was formed as a result of the acquisition of Colombia Telecom by Telefonica in April 2006. Telefonica Colombia provides a broad range of telecommunication services including fixed telephony, mobile telephony, Internet, broadband, data transmission services and corporate solutions. The company is present in 998 municipalities representing 90.9 per cent of the country.

In January 2010, it was announced that the company's parent Telefonica is interested in buying a controlling stake in ETB. However in September 2010, ETB abandoned its search for a strategic investor.
