Operator Source 29 Mar 2012Telefonica de ArgentinaFollowing privatisation in 1989, ENTel, the incumbent operator, was split into two separate contracts to provide services for the northern and southern regions of Argentina. Under the new structure, Telefonica de Argentina took over the contract to provide services for the southern region from 1990. Originating in Argentina and part of the Telefonica Group, Telefonica de Argentina now offers a wide range of telecommunications services such as public telephone, cable television and data communications. In August 2007, Telefonica de Argentina said it would continue preparing for an IPTV launch despite being warned by the federal broadcasting committee that it is not authorised to do so. In January 2009, the operator started piloting an IPTV service in Buenos Aires. While waiting for the regulatory changes, in April 2009 the operator also launched a triple play bundle jointly with DIRECTV.
