Telenor is the incumbent telecommunications operator in Norway. In January 2003, it offered DSL services in regions inhabited by 65 per cent of the population. In July 2005, Telenor acquired Tiscali’s broadband customer base enabling the operator to expand its broadband service offerings in Norway.

In May 2005, Telenor acquired Bredbandsbolaget (B2 Broadband) in Sweden and Cybercity in Denmark for SEK 6 billion and DKK 1.4 billion respectively. In January 2007, Telenor purchased the Swedish fixed-line service provider Spray. These deals, together with the acquisition of Tele2 in Q2 2007, enabled Telenor to expand its DSL infrastructure and gain larger broadband market shares in Sweden and Denmark.
