15 May 2012Telkom Kenya

Telkom Kenya is the largest public telecommunications operator in Kenya. The incumbent was previously part of Kenya Post and Telecommunications Corporation but was incorporated as an independent company in 1999 under the Companies Act. The operator offers data, voice and Internet services to home, enterprises and international organisations.

Despite its strong foundation, it is a loss-making company operating in a market which is experiencing increasing competition. In December 2007, France Telecom acquired a 51 per cent stake in Telkom Kenya. As of 17 September 2008, Telkom Kenya provides its services under the Orange brand.

In November 2010, Telkom Kenya was awarded a 3G licence. The 3G network was launched in August 211. The operator anticipates to launch IPTV and quad-play services in 2012.
