Telmex is the incumbent telecommunications operator in Mexico. Based in Mexico City, Telmex offers telecommunications services in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Peru and the USA.

In January 2010, Telmex and Telmex Internacional received a USD 21 billion bid from their sister company, America Movil. Carlos Slim, who controls all three companies, wants to create an integrated telecoms service provider in Latin America. As of November 2011, America Movil owns 92.99 per cent of Telmex's shares.
