TELUS is an incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) based in Canada, that offers local, long distance, data, Internet and other services to the residential and business customers of Western Canada and Eastern Quebec.
Following the acquisition of Emergis on 29 November 2007, TELUS rebranded the company as TELUS Health Solutions on 18 November 2008. The operator aimed to increase its presence and capabilities in the Canadian healthcare sector. Setting up a different brand especially for this sector has given TELUS a definite first move advantage in supporting health information management systems. Furthermore, the company also plans to invest over CAD 100 million in the next three years to improve its capabilities. TELUS launched its ADSL service in 1998 under the brand name Velocity (later renamed high-speed Internet). In March 2005, it launched Distributed Denial of Service, Intrusion Prevention Service and Secure Socket Layer VPN security solutions for its business customers. The company offers value added services such as spam control and anti-virus protection to its high-speed Internet customers at no additional cost.
