UNET is a telecommunication services provider and one of the fibre technology pioneers in The Netherlands. The company was founded in 2003 by First Mile Ventures (FMV) and Broadband Innovative Solutions (BIS). In March 2004, it started offering fibre based Internet, telephony and TV services in Almere.

Prior to this, in 2002, the government decided to set up the city’s own fibre-optic network infrastructure. To this effect, the city raised funds from the central government and European Union and leased out the network to UNET. In 2004, the company jointly with the Flevoland government and other commercial parties initiated the construction of a fibre network in Almere though the Almere Fibre Pilot Project. The parties were AT&T, BBned, BT, Cisco, IBM, KPN, Sara and Schuuring communication network.

By 2005, the company also expanded its fibre network into Rotterdam. Throughout 2006, UNET has been offering FTTH broadband services to residential, business and wholesale customers in Almere and Rotterdam. In cooperation with KPN, UNET now also offers ADSL/ADSL2+ services. Tariffs vary slightly from region to region.
