Operator Source 20 Jul 2010United Internet
United Internet is an ISP that provides its telecommunication services to residential, home office, small and medium business customers in Germany. The operator offers its Internet services over ADSL and ADSL2+ networks through three brands, GMX, Web.de and 1&1. United Internet also provides services such as outsourcing and online marketing through its other subsidiaries InterNetX, Adlink, Sedo and Affilinet. In February 2007, Schlund + Partner and 1&1 merged. Services and products from Schlund + Partner are now being offered by 1&1. In addition, United Internet markets web-hosting services as white label solutions via the brands InterNetX and Fasthosts.
United Internet does not own a physical network, but throughout 2007 it has persistently been trying to purchase shares in network operators that do, such as Versatel and freenet AG for instance. In the past, its DSL service lines were purchased from Deutsche Telecom on a wholesale basis. A recent move in mid-2007 has seen the company shift to wholesale offers from Telefonica and QSC. In May 2009, United Internet aquired the DSL business of freenet AG for around EUR 123 million. By the end of the year customer DSL contracts will be transferred to United Internet.
